เกมกลยุทธ์สงครามแบบอสมมาตร (Asymmetric) ที่ผู้เล่นแต่ละฝ่ายมีวิธีการเล่นและทำคะแนนที่แตกต่างกัน เล่นได้ตั้งแต่ 2 ถึง 4 คน โดยดัดแปลงมาจากนิยายเจ้าของสุดยอดรางวัล Sci-fi ชื่อดัง อย่าง Dune ของ Frank Herbert 

ผู้เล่นร่วมกันเนรมิตฉากสงครามกลางทะเลทรายระหว่างตระกูล อาร์เทดีส และ ฮาคอนเนน พร้อมกันกับเหล่าพันธมิตรอย่าง พวกเฟรเมน  และตระกูลราชวงศ์โคร์ริโน่ (ที่ถูกควบคุมแยกกันในเกมแบบผู้เล่น 3-4 คน)

เกมนี้ได้ผสานการเผชิญหน้ากันแบบตรงตามเนื้อเรื่อง เข้ากับองค์ประกอบอื่น ๆ ที่ช่วยสร้างบรรยากาศให้เหมือนกับจักรวาลดูนจริง ๆ แต่ละฝ่ายจะเล่นกันด้วยวิธีการอันแตกต่าง เพื่อตะกายไปสู่ชัยชนะ
